OUR PROGRAMS

Services

Karibu Community Legacy, we are dedicated to empowering survivors of sexual and domestic violence in the Metro Atlanta area through comprehensive support and advocacy. Since 2019, our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization has provided vital resources to meet the immediate and long-term needs of individuals and families, focusing on physical, legal, emotional, and economic well-being. Our culturally and linguistically tailored education and prevention programs equip underserved communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to break the cycles of violence, fostering a safer, more informed society.

Victim Services

Our victim services program is designed for survivors of both domestic and sexual violence with the goal of transitioning survivors to living a violence-free life. Two big aspects of our victim services are advocacy and empowerment outside of our direct services.

Advocacy

Society, at the grass-roots, is gradually becoming aware of how sexual and domestic violence is drastically affecting women and children who are the very backbone of every society. Therefore, pragmatic measures and policies backed by strong advocacy are needed to free those who are silenced. At KCL, we take advocacy to another level. We ensure that victims and survivors are heard on issues that are important to them and have their views and wishes genuinely considered when important life decisions are made.

Empowerment

Survivors are often told things by their abusers such as they’re useless, worthless or horrible. Over time, a survivor starts to think that it’s true. Therefore, at KCL we focus on empowering our clients since empowerment can help them break the cycle by giving them back control. We also offer career counseling, including interview training, job search skills, networking, and resume assistance.

Project SAFE

Project SAFE is our outreach and prevention education programs. It is well known that knowledge is power. Therefore, the more we can inform and educate people about sexual and domestic violence, the closer we can get to eliminating it. At KCL, we educate and help community members become more aware of cultural influences which contribute to sexual and domestic violence. With our collaboration with community leaders, we try to help prevent violence before it starts. We have trained educators for community education and prevention programs, school programs and more.

Our workshops focus on three major topics:

  • Healthy/Unhealthy relationships

  • Cycle of Violence

  • Resources

Project CLEAR

CLEAR stands for Computer Literacy Education and Access for Refugees and immigrants. The plan for this program is to create a community center where community members can have free access to computers and the internet. Where community members can apply for jobs, create resumes, and apply for social services. For survivors there will be a private space for confidential conversation and counseling through Zoom or Team. Community members will always have access to at least one staff to assist them with any application or questions including on creating emails or creating any accounts, this is much needed in many immigrant and refugee communities.

Language Access Program

At Karibu Community Legacy we have specialty in working with African immigrants and refugees having over 18 languages in house, including but not limited to: Amharic, French, Swahili, Arabic, Kinyarwanda, Tigrinya, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali and more. For languages that we do not have in-house we have access to language lines to make sure that our programs are accessible and inclusive for everyone. We can translate documents and forms for community partners.
